Bittersweet

Blake's last day of school is this Friday! I continue to be amazed at his progress and more than pleased with the experience we have had with the Greenville public schools. Today I had an end of school meeting with his teacher to discuss extended school year (a.k.a Summer School), which he does NOT qualify for. That is actually a good thing because that means he continually shows progress and demonstrates what he has learned even after a break or weekend. He would only go to school in the summer if he regressed. Blake is already enrolled at the same Mother's Morning Out program as Dane. They will both go on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer which means Blake will be in a "typical" preschool setting all summer! It will be both fun and challenging for him to keep him on top of his game when off from school. So, this the sweet part...a celebration of Blake's first experiences at school and a great report from his teacher!

Now for the bitter part. It has been decided that the teacher and classroom he is currently a part of will NOT be at the same school next year. Greenville schools have built a new child development center, which is wonderful, but it is about 20 minutes from our house. The school he currently attends is 5 minutes away. But, distance does not matter at all to me. He will likely not be able to stay with Ms. Ruthie and her classroom set-up, which he has obviously thrived in. We will not find out any details until we receive a letter this summer. So, we just wait. I had a great discussion with Ms. Ruthie, his current teacher, today. She and the entire preschool team all know and agree that Blake is in the perfect setting and that he does best in the environment that he currently has. So, hopefully that means they will seek that same environment and maybe even place him with Ms. Ruthie next year. We can only hope. As for now, Blake may be placed at a number of possible schools (not necessarily the new child development center) next year. More information about this to come as I receive it...

Wow, Beth! So many changes...We'll have to talk more on this in person soon. I am thrilled for his stunning progress this year and happy that you'll have a one-stop drop off for both boys for a bit this summer.
